We decided to have our first road trip from Delhi to Dharamshala by car. A total run of 500 Kms with a fuel capacity of 26 Ltrs and the mileage of 20 kmpl (approx) on the highway.

Before we get into the details let us tell you, if you’re planning to go for a road trip in your vehicle, do mark Delhi to Dharamshala in your checklist because the road quality is simply superb (as shown in the video) and there’s not much traffic or halt. You will cross multiple states & cities in between and encounter a lot of Punjabi & Himachali Dhabas for a quick meal.

Like our road trip from Delhi to Jaipur, we started our journey early in the morning at around 4:00 am from Gurgaon (Yes you have to start early to escape the city traffic) and reached the first stop to refresh ourselves, named Haveli (The famous food joint where every interstate private bus pulls over for food).

By the time we reached Ambala, it was already 9:00 am but from there the journey became more interesting as you get a chance to speed up on the clean highway and enjoy the cool breeze, a breath of fresh air away from the city.

Remember, if you want to shorten up your journey, there’s a road change you need to take, from the highway. The road will skip Chandigarh and connect you directly to the Kharar flyover. The moment you cross Nangal Dam (covered in the video) you’re a step closer to your entry into Himachal.

Do expect traffic when you enter Himachal via Una because of tight roads. That’s the only area that will slow you down a bit otherwise the rest of the way is clear to run smoothly.
